The Perfect Padel + Beach Day in Curacao
Plan the perfect padel and beach day in Curaçao: morning or evening court time, midday at the beach, and which beaches pair best with which clubs.
Padel and beach in the same day is the whole reason to play this sport in Curaçao. You get the adrenaline of a competitive match and the reward of floating in turquoise water a few hours later, sometimes within walking distance of the court. But there is one mistake visitors make over and over: they book a court for 1:00 PM, play forty minutes in brutal sun, and spend the rest of the day recovering instead of enjoying the beach.
The fix is simple. Padel goes in the cool hours, the beach takes the middle of the day, and the two fit together like a well-planned doubles rotation. Here is how to build that day, including which beaches pair naturally with which clubs.
The golden rule: keep padel out of the midday sun
Daytime temperatures in Curaçao sit between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius (86 to 91 Fahrenheit) year-round, and an open court in direct sun feels hotter than that because the surface radiates heat back at you. The beach handles midday just fine. You have the sea to cool off in, shade to retreat to, and a cold drink never far away. A padel court offers none of those escapes mid-rally.
So every good padel and beach day follows the same shape: play early or play after sunset, and put your beach hours in between. The sun sets around 6:30 PM all year, which makes the schedule easy to plan no matter when you visit.
Blueprint one: morning padel, afternoon beach
This is the classic version, and the one most locals would recommend.
7:30 to 9:00 AM: court time. The first slots of the day are the coolest you will get, often 26 to 28 degrees Celsius (79 to 82 Fahrenheit) with a fresh trade wind. Book the evening before through the club’s booking app so you are not scrambling at breakfast. Morning slots are also easier to get than evening ones, which are the most contested on the island.
9:00 to 10:30 AM: breakfast. You have earned it. Grab something near the club or head toward the beach and eat there.
11:00 AM onward: beach. Arrive before noon and you will still find good spots for shade. Swim, snorkel, nap, repeat. By the time the afternoon heat peaks, you are exactly where you should be: in the water. Stay for the sunset around 6:30 PM, which from the west-facing beaches is genuinely spectacular.
Blueprint two: beach first, padel under the lights
Flip the order and you get a completely different, equally good day.
Spend the morning and early afternoon at the beach, head back for a shower and a rest, then play in the evening when the temperature drops to 26 to 28 degrees Celsius (79 to 82 Fahrenheit) and the floodlights come on. Evening padel in Curaçao has an atmosphere all its own, and we wrote a full guide to playing after dark covering which clubs have the best lighting.
Two warnings for this version. First, evening slots between 6:00 and 8:00 PM are the busiest on the island, so book a day or two ahead. Second, do not overdo the sun before an evening match. Four hours of midday beach followed by ninety minutes of padel is a recipe for cramping. Keep the beach session relaxed, drink water all afternoon, and you will play fine.
The bonus of blueprint two is that your match ends right at dinner time. See our guide to where to eat and drink after padel for how to land the third act of the day.
Which beach pairs with which club
Curaçao’s clubs and beaches cluster in ways that make some pairings effortless and others a proper road trip. Here are the three that work best.
Mambo Beach and Padel X Curaçao
This is the easiest combination on the island, because Padel X Curaçao sits on Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd in the Mambo Beach area. Play in the morning on one of their eight courts (five covered, handy if you want shade even early), walk over to the beach for the day, and come back for a drink at the rooftop bar in the evening. Court rental is ANG 60 per hour, about 34 US dollars, split between four players. Mambo Beach Boulevard has restaurants, shops, and loungers, so you can build the entire day within one small area without touching a car after arrival.
Jan Thiel and Ultimate Padel
Jan Thiel Beach anchors the east side of the island, with calm water and a lively bar scene. Ultimate Padel on Santa Rosaweg is on the eastern side of Willemstad, a short drive away, with six courts and bar service for the post-match drink. Play early at Ultimate, then continue east to Jan Thiel for the rest of the day. If you are staying in the Jan Thiel area, this pairing keeps your whole day on one side of the island.
Cas Abao and a west-side road trip
Cas Abao is one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, with clear, calm water that is ideal for snorkeling, and it sits well west of Willemstad. There are no padel clubs out west, so the move is a morning session at a centrally located club before you drive out. Just Padel Curaçao in Saliña is right in central Willemstad, and Epic Padel Curaçao on Chuchubiweg is another easy starting point. Play at 8:00 AM, grab coffee, and make the roughly 45 minute drive west while the day heats up. You arrive at Cas Abao before the midday crowd and with your workout already done.
Pack one bag for both halves
The trick to a smooth double-header is packing so you never have to go back to your accommodation. In one bag:
- Racket and a can of balls if you have them, though most clubs rent both
- Proper court shoes, not sandals. Our what to wear guide covers footwear in detail
- Two shirts: one to sweat through on court, one clean for the beach
- Swimwear, towel, and a plastic or dry bag to quarantine the sweaty kit
- Cap, sunglasses, and more water than you think you need
One island-specific warning: never leave your racket in a parked car. Interior temperatures here climb high enough to soften the glue and damage the foam core. Take it with you or leave it in the shade.
Do not assume the club has showers or lockers. Facilities vary between the six clubs, so if rinsing off before the beach matters to your plan, call ahead or ask through the club’s booking app.
Sunscreen and hydration timing
A padel and beach day means six or more hours of tropical sun exposure, and sequencing matters:
- Apply sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before your morning match, not when you walk on court. It needs time to bind to your skin, and sweat will strip it faster than you expect.
- Reapply before the beach, even if you applied that morning. A match’s worth of sweat plus a swim leaves very little protection behind.
- Reapply after every swim. Water-resistant does not mean waterproof.
- Drink before you feel thirsty. Start hydrating at breakfast, keep a bottle courtside, and continue at the beach. If you are playing the evening slot, treat the whole afternoon as pre-match hydration. An electrolyte tablet in your water works wonders here.
Make it a week, not just a day
Once you have done one padel and beach day, you will want to repeat it with a different pairing. Rotate through the combinations: Padel X and Mambo Beach one day, Ultimate and Jan Thiel the next, a west-side run to Cas Abao later in the week. Morning rally, midday swim, sunset drink. It is a simple formula, and it is very hard to beat.
